Beyond the Like: Understanding the Pressure of Social Media on Women

Hi there! If you’ve been following my work or my Instagram, you’ll find my book Além do Like fascinating. It’s an in-depth report on the aesthetic pressures women face in the age of social media, originally published in Brazil by Senac (2025). The book explores how modern beauty standards, amplified by social media, affect women’s body image, self-esteem, and everyday decisions. From filters to “perfect” bodies constantly showcased online, women of all shapes and ages are pressured to compare themselves, and often feel dissatisfied. Through real stories and expert insights, the book combines interviews with women —actresses, former models, YouTubers, influencers, and everyday women — with interviews with nutritionists, psychologists, and body image specialists. It also draws on research into self-esteem, mental health, and social media culture. In its updated edition, the book examines historical beauty ideals, diet culture, mental health implications, and the ways AI and social media algorithms shape how we see ourselves.
